- Thermographic printing: very high level of both monochrome and four-color printing. Optimum for the reproduction of detailed images, such as photographs, logos, barcodes or texts. It can be used on both faces of the card.
- Ink jet: very fast but less precise than the previous two, excellent for simple prints.
- Punching-embossing and in-fill incision: these techniques are mainly used for credit cards and respectively consist in creating raised characters on and in the card.
- Numbering: this can be performed using ink-jet or thermal printing, and consists in the progressive numbering of the cards.
- Barcodes: these can be created using ink jet or thermographic printing and can be covered or masked to prevent their duplication or counterfeiting.
